On The Cape Fear River

Sunday Afternoon
We were riding in my canoe
And the sunlight on your face
Was the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.
You and me
On The Cape Fear River.

Friday night is hopping
Down on the waterfront.
I Stopped by Water Street Restaurant
To have a beer with some old friends.
Watching that water roll
On the Cape Fear River.

Water runs so fast
It carries your blues away.

Today a car drove into the river
Ann the black water carried it away.
The ghost came out of the battleship,
He was happy to greet a new friend
Claimed by the black water
Of the Cape Fear River.

Water runs so fast
It’ll carry you down to sea.

Sunday afternoon
We were laying down by the water
And you ran your fingers through my hair
And life seemed so perfect
On the Cape Fear River.
